Previously, in our last 2 posts, we talked about Blockchain and Crypto, how can be used in the Shipping Container Industry, now we can talk about NFT’s. You’re thinking this cannot be applied in the Shipping Containers Industry and why it would that be? Well, believe it or not, a Shipping Container liner was sold from Amann Shipping to a new Chinese owner, Yongwang Shipping, through an NFT, minted to commemorate the first world’s crypto ship if you want to call it like that. Let’s hear more about this wonderful story and what this first step would mean for the industry.
Amann Shipping company, built in 1999, Padian 1, a 411 TEU container ship, considered the pioneer for their fleet. After 22 years spent on the sea, carrying lots of containers around the world, Padian, was set for sale, receiving an offer from Yongwang Shipping and they really considered it. Blockchain technology allowed Amann Shipping to create a complete and secure record of the ship’s life, that could provide a very practical solution for handling documentation on future vessel transactions.
A maritime lawyer and NFT strategist was involved in creating the world’s first ship NFT. The ship NFT was created to commemorate the first ship in Amann Shipping’s fleet, the hard work and services of those who had been on board the ship through out it’s past. The Padian 1 NFT illustrates an animated profile picture of the ship. It has unlockable digitized records of the ship, includes, ownership certificate and survey records, it’s particular, structural drawings, capacity plans and other records and images of the ship. The ship will no longer physically exist with the selling company, but it will remain on the Ethereum blockchain indefinitely. The ship’s NFT is a unique collectible, and the first of it’s kind.
Similar application, could have more practical usage for selling and purchasing transactions as an NFT-type token, a complete and secure set of records for a ship, that could be transferred along with a physical vessel whenever it is sold. Right now, vessel records are usually transferred by email, a time consuming process and limited by the emails capacity to transfer information. NFTs have no capacity restrictions, and can be downloaded instantly ( of course depending on your local internet speed ). That would save tremendous time and money with work force that would have to scan, or load all paperwork into emails, servers etc,
The Padian 1 NFT is a historical record frozen in time, since it’s not amendable. Creating a token that is a record for every ship available, would be very useful on the long run, also with the supply chain, it would be interesting to apply this technology within, making transactions easier and faster in the Shipping Container industry.
With all these said, we can see that blockchain, crypto and NFT’s would change our world and the industries as we know them, slowly but surely we will dive in the Metaverse sooner or later, and we will experience what truly blockchain speed means. Until then, let’s stay positive, try to learn as much as possible form the evolving and changing world around us, and understand one thing, we are free as long as we want to be, until we surrender our mind and body to our passions and distractions.
